Absolutely Altinkum Community Forum Donation Link
Why does Absolutely Altinkum need support?
Absolutely Altinkum is a privately run, non-commercial site set up by Lynn and Keith in 2005 to provide a meeting place and community for people with a love of Turkey, but in particular Altinkum and its environs. We have no commercial or financial interest in any business or undertaking in Turkey so we can operate this site in a totally independent and dispassionate manner.
As the site's popularity has grown so have its operating costs but at no time more so than in the last few weeks. In common with many other websites, we were subjected at the turn of the year to a series of prolonged and malicious cyber attacks which brought AA to it's knees. Unlike the websites of commercial organisations however, we have to operate on a very limited budget made up from member donations and our own pockets. We could not have afforded to do the work necessary to rescue AA were it not for the skills, enthusiasm and dedication of one man. John McMullan (Johnnetplus) agreed to help us out on a fee scale far below market rates, and he has saved AA. Not only that but he has totally redesigned the site to give it a fresh and vibrant feel.
John has put in many, many hours of programming, research and discussions with numerous parties to repair and rejuvenate AA and to increase our security to keep hackers at bay in future. He has done this in his own time using his own resources and whilst we have been able to send him a small payment from the few member's donations in the kitty, we still would like to reimburse him for undertaking all this work.
We have always said that donations are purely voluntary and we still say this. But please remember that without all the many hours' work that John has put in, the only Absolutely Altinkum left would be in people's memories. Before you think this message isn't meant for you because with over 2,800 members we must get plenty of donations, please be aware that in any one year since we started the site in 2005, never has the level of donations risen above 0.1% of the membership. We have always had to supplement costs from our own pocket but these cyber attacks have made us realise we can no longer operate the forum on a shoestring budget. We need YOUR financial support please both to reimburse John for work done and for the work he will continue to do as our new Administrator.
